Aircraft Parts: The Inside of an Aircraft

Aircraft parts include everything in the cockpit and out of it. Usually, the structural parts of an aircraft are not included in this definition. There are times however, when an aircraft owner may want to find new wing struts or flaps - especially if they are restoring an older aircraft. For the most part however, aircraft parts will include all avionics including audio panels, flight controls, gps, indicators, intercoms,NAV/COMS, transponders and other types of avionics. Parts may also include engines or parts for those engines, engine or body kits, pilot gear like goggles or glasses, tactical pilotage maps and other gear. Parts also include aircraft manuals.

Wear and tear and just plain usage will eventually require that almost all parts of an aircraft be replaced with new,rebuilt or pre-owned parts. Parts wear out or simply don't function or look as nice as they once did.

Every aircraft, like every automobile, has specific operating and handling characteristics that make each one unique. Each aircraft can also be tailored to fit the tastes of the owner-pilot. Once someone has owned a plane for awhile, he gets a feel for the way the plane behaves mechanically and what it sounds like under varying weather conditions or landing conditions. It is the cues he receives from the plane that determine when the pilot or owner will replace or add to its avionics or its accessories. If a pilot is mechanically inclined, he can do the installation work himself but the safest way to go about changing out parts of an aircraft may be to hire a certified and experienced aircraft mechanic to do the work for you.

Regular maintenance of any aircraft is essential to its safe performance while taking off, flying and landing. Part-replacement should also be considered at regularly-scheduled maintenance times. Aircraft manuals for your specific aircraft are important as are having a good toolbox with tool-sets that fit the parts of your aircraft's engine. Never throw away the aircraft manual.

 

The exterior aircraft parts are also important and should be regularly checked for structural integrity. The prop(s), windshield(s), wings, and the condition of the tires and landing gear should all be regularly checked.

If, during any of your regular inspections, you find a problem, the aircraft should be grounded until the worn-out or faulty aircraft parts can be repaired or replaced.
